Many people consider their pet dog just like family. This is one time where your family dog cannot enjoy the same foods you will be enjoying on Thanksgiving. You care for your loved ones and what they regarding diabetes, high cholesterol, or high fat, so you should care about bad foods for your dog as well. I know that many people share food off the table with their dogs. This time think before you share what are leftovers and what goes to the dog.
Thanksgiving Food No no’s
** Turkey skin/bones –Bones can splinter and can cause damage inside the body. Fatty skins can cause gastrointestinal distress.
** Corn on the Cob — Some dogs are allergic to corn. Corn can be hard to pass in the digestive system.
** Garlic and onions — One may not purposely give these items to their dog. But they could be in a dish that you have at dinner. These can damage red blood cells which can lead to anemia.
** Grapes and raisins — These items are poisonous to dogs. The last thing we would want is to poison our dogs.
** Gravy and trimmings — These items could be on a plate of food that was not eaten. You may just place a plate on the floor for the dog. There is fatty drippings which has high fat and cause problems for the dog.
** Chocolate — This item contains a chemical that is metabolized easily in the dogs.
So now when you are cleaning up the plates from the Thanksgiving dinner, think before you give the plate to the dog to clean up. Dogs are part of the family just like anyone else is. Thanksgiving food is not dog food.
