Presently, I work 3 nights a week (12 hour shifts) at my full time job. One of the reasons at one time, I choose to work night shift was because my husband and I could both work with one car in the household. I would get home and he would leave a little bit later. People tend to choose to work night shift because they pay is better. If I looked at myself years ago, I would never have thought of staying up all night long, working.
What people don’t tell you
** One can never really catch up on their sleep. So you may feel tired always.
** Working nights may cause fights with your spouse because you are not home. My husband has said he felt like a bachelor because he was sleeping alone in the bed.
** As a parent, you may miss school sports activities or events due to sleeping or working.
** One is unable to go on outings with family or friends due to working. It can be hard to get together with friends because you would have the opposite schedule that they do.
** Most working are law enforcement or in the medical field. These jobs run 24 hours a day and even holidays so one does not give off on holidays.
Working nights at a job is a choice. One may go through moods where they want off nights. It can be a challenge to change your sleep schedule along with your everyday life. The job of working nights is not for everyone. Maybe you know someone who is not always able to do things out when you are. If I could change things, I probably wouldn’t want to work night shift anymore. I miss sleeping in my bed at night time. I do not sleep well during the day.
Could you see yourself working night shift?
